Chicago police trade $100 gift cards for guns at West Pullman, Lawndale turn-in events

CHICAGO (WLS) -- The Chicago Police Department is working to get guns off the streets with no questions asked.

CPD held two events Saturday for the final gun turn-ins of the year. One event was at Saint Titus Church and the other is at Saint Agatha Church.

Chicago's top cop is thanking everyone who braved the cold weather to make the city safer.

Each person who turned in a gun received a $100 pre-paid gift card.

Police said they recovered more than 200 weapons. Organizers said every gun turned in will be destroyed.
