Chicago firefighters broke down a door and rescued a woman from her burning home Friday night near 104th and Hamlin. Someone called 911 after noticing smoke coming from the house. The caller had tried but wasn't able to get a response from anyone inside.

Firefighters arrived and went inside where they found a woman between 75-and-80 years old on the floor.

Firefighters at the scene believe they've identified the cause.

"We believe careless use of cooking material. Everything was contained to the kitchen area. No place else burned," said David Walton, Chicago Fire Dept.

No one else was in the home. The woman was taken to the hospital in critical condition.
