Off-duty cop shoots teen on South Side

A teenager was allegedly shot by an off-duty Chicago police officer Tuesday morning near Phillips High School Academy on West Pershing The off-duty officer was working security when the teen allegedly brought a gun to the school. According to school officials, the officer was patting down the student when he ran away with the gun. The officer chased the teen and the shooting took place shortly after.

The student is hospitalized in good to stable condition.

The independent police review authority is investigating.
