Absentee voting began Friday for the upcoming February 5 primary in Illinois.

A record number of voters took advantage of early voting. More than 81,000 people in Chicago have already cast their ballots. Many early voting sites reported lines.

The record number nearly tripled the previous record of 24,000 early votes cast in the November 2006 general election.
