Chicago Christians celebrate start of Lent

Christians in Chicago and throughout the world observed Ash Wednesday.Holy Name Cathedral was one of many local churches holding services.

Many worshippers took part in a traditional Ash Wednesday practice. Their foreheads are marked with a cross made of ashes, which reminds Christians of their mortality. It's also a sign of penitence on the first day of Lent.
