Cups of coffee may cut heart risk

Researchers found that daily coffee consumption may help lower the risk of death from heart disease. Women who drank two to three cups per day had a 25 percent reduced risk compared to women who were not coffee drinkers. Women who drank four to five cups per day had a 34 percent reduced risk.

For men the association was not as strong but there was still a trend toward reduced heart deaths for coffee drinkers.

Decaf appeared to offer the same benefits.

Doctors say coffee may lower inflammation, but people should not start drinking it because of this research.
