Lockett's family says he got into an argument with some people before heading to see his child's mother.
"It was just so unnecessary. People don't think about what they're doing to other family members, they just react, and I think it's really unfair. It used to be where you could just fight it out. What happened to those days," said Joanne Johnson, the victim's cousin.
Lockett's family says he is survived by four children.
