They were looking for a 13-year-old Chicago boy who was swimming in the area this afternoon. Rip currents may have been a factor.
"There was two of them actually in trouble- the got caught in the rip currents. Other people on the shore helped the one individual out but they were not able to get to the second one," said Bob Cauffman, Indiana Conservation Officer.
It's the second time in less than a month that an Illinois teen has gone missing in the lake off northwest Indiana.
A Chicago Heights teenager drowned off Kimel Beach in July.
