A snowplow struck a gas main in northwest suburban Hanover Park Wednesday morning sparking a fire. The flames forced officials to close a section of Irving Park Road. Firefighters had to let the fire burn until Nicor personnel were able to shut off the gas.

The plow was driven by a private contractor.

Irving Park Road has been reopened.

No one was injured.
