Senate leadership reviewing new document in Burris case

January 9, 2009 (CHICAGO) Burris's attorney told a news conference this afternoon he already sent the document to the Senate along with an attached Blagojevich letter saying he had appointed Burris.

Actually, the paper with White's signature on it appears to be a certification that the secretary of state's office had registered the arrival of the appointment.

A spokesman for Secretary of State Jesse White says the form touted by the attorney is different from the official U.S. Senate forms White has refused to sign.

On Capitol Hill, senior Democrats said they wanted to wait and see before offering any opinion on what the newfound document from White's office meant.
