Insomnia is a condition traditionally associated with older adults, but now younger adults are turning to sleeping pills more than ever. A Thomson Reuters study found the use of prescription sleep aids nearly tripled among 18-to-24-year-olds between 1998 and 2006. The study looked at medical and drug claims data.

Experts say they are finding a number of students seeking sleep aids because their normal sleep patterns have been disrupted in college. And they fear these adults may have trouble adjusting to a normal sleep patterns as their schedules normalize.
