Study: Doodling gives memory a boost

February 27, 2009 Plymouth University researchers carried out memory tests on 40 volunteers, asking them to listen to a long, dull phone call and recall names and places.

Researchers found doodlers performed 29 percent better on memory tests than non-doodlers.

Experts say doodling stops people from daydreaming during boring tasks and helps them to focus.

The study is in the Applied Cognitive Psychology Journal.
