Jury awards $30m to woman hurt in Metra crash

Februay 27, 2009 (CHICAGO) Renea Poppel suffered brain damage and other injuries in the September 2005 accident on the Rock Island Line. She will probably require full-time care for life.

Two people were killed in the accident.

Metra admitted fault and offered to settle with Poppel for $16.7 million. But her lawyers asked a jury to award her nearly $67 million in damages.

Metra has not yet released an official response to the jury's decision.
