Can a glass of wine a day lower cancer risk?

Add this to the list of the possible benefits to drinking wine: a glass a day may lower the risk of developing something called Barrett's esophagus. It's a pre-cancerous condition of the lining of the passage running from the mouth to the stomach.

Researchers say it's unclear how wine might achieve this beneficial effect, but wine contains certain compounds that could reduce cellular damage.

A report in the journal Gastroenterology shows that those who drank seven or more glasses of wine a week were 66-percent less likely to develop Barrett's esophagus.
