4 arrested after police chase

Four men were in police custody Saturday after a Chicago police officer was struck in the face before the offenders fled the scene and crashed on the Eisenhower Expressway on the near West Side.The incident began about 1:15 a.m. as a disturbance on the 800 block of West Randolph Street. Police say they were trying to arrest one of the men when he struck an officer in the face.

The men then fled the scene by car onto the outbound I-290 Expressway where their vehicle rolled over in a crash at the Oakley underpass. The men tried to run away, but officers arrested them after a foot chase.

The crash snarled traffic on the outbound lanes of 290 early Saturday morning.

The officer who was assaulted was in good condition at Northwestern Memorial Hospital.

One of the offenders was also listed in good condition.

The incident is under investigation.
