Evanston has given the green light to a big addition to its skyline. The city council approved a plan to build a luxury condo tower. The Fountain Square Development will be built at 708 Church St. Developers say construction may not start for another five years.

The tower will be 385 feet tall, becoming Evanston's tallest building.

The development has been very controversial since plans were announced two years ago. Some argue the building provides little public benefit and is too tall.

Evanston aldermen estimate the development will generate $2 million in annual tax revenues.
