Astronaut takes a piece of Northwestern to space

An astronaut was headed to the International Space Station Friday with a Northwestern University banner in his suitcase. Michael Barratt earned his MD from Northwestern's Feinberg School of Medicine. He took off Thursday on board the Russian Soyuz spacecraft.

Barratt asked to borrow the banner to honor his past involvement with the university. He plans to take a picture of it inside the space station.

Barratt will return the banner to Northwestern after the flight.

An american space tourist is also on board the Soyuz spacecraft.
