New reason for women to kick the habit

May 4, 2009 A new study finds that women may be more vulnerable than men to the cancer causing ingredients in cigarettes.

An examination of data reveals that female lung cancer patients tended to be younger when they developed the disease, even though they tended to smoke significantly fewer cigarettes than men. Researchers believe this shows women have an increased susceptibility to tobacco carcinogens.

Scientists with the European Society for Medical Oncology say this adds to growing evidence that smoking poses greater health risk to women than men.
