Governor Pat Quinn, who marks 100 days in office Saturday, visited the Greater Chicago Food Depository on Friday. GE workers presented a $50,000 check to the depository.

The executive director said, with the economy, there has never been a year like this at the depository. She also revealed that the governor is a long time volunteer at the depository.

As for Quinn, he praised the giving nature of all people in Illinois.

"As governor, I've been so impressed by the heart of the people of Illinois. Wherever you go in our state, people are willing to lend a helping hand to someone who needs it," Quinn said.

Quinn said he put $1 million in the state budget to help food banks. Lawmakers have just over three weeks to complete the budget.
