Safety experts issue warning about treadmills

May 27, 2009 Tyson's daughter, Exodus, died after her neck got caught in a cord dangling from a treadmill.

Doctors estimate that about 25,000 children are treated in emergency rooms each year for injuries suffered on home exercise equipment.

Consumer reports say children can receive severe burns when they touch a moving treadmill belt.

Parents are urged to keep treadmills locked and unplugged when not in use.

Treadmills and other exercise equipment should also be placed so parents can see children approaching when they are in use.
