Study: Baseball becoming safer

June 4, 2009

Now it seems this sport is becoming safer.

A new report finds the number of children injured has declined by about 30 percent in the past 13 years.

According to the study in the journal "Pediatrics," being hit by a baseball accounted for 46 percent of the injuries.

Getting smacked by a bat accounted for 25 percent of those hurt and 10 percent were injured while sliding into base.

The vast majority of injured children where treated and released.

Still, researchers say greater use of safety equipment could make baseball an even safer sport.
