Judge rules on dealth penalty in murder case

A Cook County judge ruled on Wednesday that the death penalty can be considered for James Pender, who admitted he killed his estranged wife with a hammer.Pender entered a guilty plea yesterday as his jury trial was about to begin.

Therese Pender was killed as she walked home from the River Forest Metra Station in March of 2005.

Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty for James Pender.

He is scheduled to be sentenced on June 23rd.
