2 people dead in Edens crash

August 23, 2009 It happened on the northbound side just north of Dempster. Investigators say the car may have been speeding and hit a tree.

Melvin Maldonado,18, and 16-year-old Magnolia Villafuerte of Chicago were killed. The driver, a 21-year-old male, was hospitalized in Evanston Sunday night.

State police say alcohol may have played a factor in the crash.

A firefighter on the scene says only one vehicle was involved in the crash.
