John Fritchey, a Democratic state representative from Chicago's Northwest Side, is planning to run for the Cook County board.Fritchey wants to win the seat held by Forrest Claypool. He is backed by Claypool, who is leaving the board for a new career with a health care company.

As a state representative for the past 13 years, Fritchey sometimes bucked Democratic Party regulars, and was an early critic of former Governor Rod Blagojevich.
