Clergy, CPS, CPD go door-to-door

September 2, 2009 (CHICAGO) Clergy members gathered Wednesday morning with school officials and community leaders to pray in front of Percy Julian High School. At least four students from that school have been killed in violence away from school grounds.

Afterward, they went door-to-door to remind children not miss the first day and encourage parents to do their part as well.

"We're not asking the parents to send their child to school. we're asking parents to take their children to school and we're encouraging the parents to meet the teacher and exchange telephone numbers," said Rev. Roosevelt Watkins, Bethlehem Star Baptist Church.

The pastors will also make a back to school message a part of their sermons this Sunday.
