Tests find chemical BPA in food cans

November 4, 2009 Consumer's Union tested 19 products for levels of the chemical BPA. They found what they considered high levels in many canned goods, including Del Monte green beans and Progresso vegetable soup.

Some studies have shown BPA may be linked to reproductive problems or increased risk of cancer or diabetes.

Food manufacturers say BPA is the best chemical for preserving food and many studies have shown BPA is safe in low levels.
