Surrounded by four United States Marshals and a half dozen court security officers, Robert Maday was arraigned in a Rolling Meadows courtroom Tuesday morning. The former escapee was shackled at the waist, hands and feet. He is charged with aggravated vehicular hijacking and attempted armed robbery during his brief flight from justice in September.

Maday escaped from custody while being transported and is charged with going on a multi-day carjacking and bank robbery spree.

A court appointed public defender entered a not guilty plea. Maday also faces federal charges.
