Community alert issued after attempted sex abuse

November 21, 2009 (CHICAGO) Authorities say the incident occurred near the 5000-block of South Loomis on November 16, 2009 at approximately 8:30 a.m.

According to police, a man they describe as a black male attempted to sexually abuse a 16-year-old girl on her way to school. The offender allegedly grabbed the victim from behind and led her into an alley. The victim reportedly screamed and attracted the attention of a witness who came to her aid. Police say the offender fled from the scene.

The suspected offender is described as between 25 and 33 years of age. Police say he is 5ft. 5 inches to 5 ft. 8 inches tall, weighs between 170 to 190 lbs, has a dark complexion, and black, short, braided hair. He reportedly was wearing a dark leather jacket with a hooded sweatshirt beneath it and dark blue jeans.

The Chicago Police Department is asking the public to advise friends and neighbors about the incident, be aware of their surroundings, and call 911 to report any suspicious person(s) or activity. The Area One Detective Division can be reached at (312) 747-8380.
