Toyota unveils plug-in version of Prius

December 14, 2009 The Japanese automaker unveiled the Prius plug-in hybrid on Monday. The company says it runs on a lithium-ion battery which the automaker says is more powerful than the batteries in other Prius models.

The cars will be available for lease to a limited group of businesses and governments in the U.S., Japan, and in Europe beginning next month. Toyota plans to offer the Prius plug-in for sale to the general public in 2011.

As for the sticker price, Toyota only says that it will be affordable.
