The CTA has given refunds to 2,500 passengers who swiped their Chicago Card Plus during the New Year's Eve and New Year's Day penny rides program. The transit authority tells ABC 7 that they didn't reprogram all the fare boxes to accept a penny for the 14-hour span of the offer. However, after receiving a few complaints, the CTA investigated the situation and found that approximately 2,500 customers swiped their cards when they shouldn't have.

The CTA then refunded the swipe amount minus 1 cent.
