President Obama's new budget includes a request for $300 million to continue an environmental restoration program for the Great Lakes. That is down from the $475 million that the president successfully requested last year. The Environmental Protection Agency blames the reduction on the poor economy but says the president remains committed to the effort to clean up the Great Lakes.

The EPA says one of the top priorities is to stop Asian carp from invading the lakes and damaging the food chain.
