Celebration for Elgin soldier on leave from Iraq

An Elgin soldier who just returned from Iraq received a hero's welcome home Monday afternoon.

Private First Class Jarad Backey thought he was just speaking to elementary school students at the Highland Christian Academy. But his mother and the Warrior's Watch Riders helped arrange a surprise celebration.

Backey returned from Iraq less than a week ago.

One of the students asked him what was his favorite part of the job.

"There are a lot of opportunities to go to places I wouldn't normally go. I've been all over the place. So farm the training I've gotten, I jump out of airplanes-- how many people can say they jump out of airplanes?" said Backey.

This will be a short stay at home. Pfc. Backey is returning to Iraq soon and will be there through this August.
