The legal bills to defend suburban Crestwood officials accused of pumping contaminated water to residents now top $1 million. According to the Chicago Tribune, the Crestwood taxpayers picking up the tab will also have to give up property tax rebates they have enjoyed for more than a decade.

Crestwood officials allegedly drew water from a contaminated well for 22 years in an apparent effort to save money.

Village officials have hired some of the most expensive lawyers in Chicago to defend them.
