Illinois lawmakers are looking at making changes to how tickets from red light cameras are issued and appealed.Critics argue the cameras are used to generate revenue.

To prevent that from happening, a proposed measure in the state Senate would ban cities from tacking on an extra fee if a driver appeals a ticket.

Lawmakers also want to narrow the area of the intersection when a red light violation can be issued.

The state Senate's transportation committee approved the bill unanimously. Red light camera legislation also is moving through the state House.
