Study: Airlines lost fewer bags

A group that tracks airline baggage worldwide says the number of lost or mishandled bags last year fell by 24 percent from 2008.

Just over 1-percent of checked luggage failed to reach it's destination in 2009. That's 11 in every 1,000 bags.

The report also finds that most lost bags were quickly located and returned to their owners. More than half of all mishandled bags were lost during transfers from one flight to another.

The group says the decline in airline passengers is a big reason for the drop in lost bags.
