Report: Claypool to run as independent in assessor race

April 3, 2010 (CHICAGO) Claypool has been a Democratic commissioner since 2002. However, he tells the Chicago Sun-Times he is running because he is angered that the Democratic nominee is Joseph Barrios.

Claypool will need to gather petition signatures to face off against Barrios, Republican Sharon Strobeck-Eckerssall and Green Party candidate Robert Grota in November.

The official announcement is expected on Tuesday.
