A Chicago teenager whose life was changed forever by a gunshot was honored Friday for his work against violence.

Before the award was given to Ondelee Perteet at Clemente High School, students heard spoken word and rap performance with anti-violence messages.

Ondelee Perteet was paralyzed from the neck down after being wounded last September. With the help of physical therapy he says he's making real progress.

The organization New Life Knew Solutions gave him an Ambassador of Peace award.

Perteet is a freshman at Orr High School.
