The attack took place in the 1100-block of Clark Street in the northern suburb.
The 11-year-old victim told police that the suspect grabbed her from behind and dragged her into some bushes.
The girl was able to fight off her attacker and run away.
She ran to a relative's house where she called police.
The search continues for the suspect.
