May 19, 2010 (CHICAGO)

General David Petraeus told an audience at the Union League Club that big challenges remain. But he said the military is meeting President Obama's goal of adding 30,000 more troops in Afghanistan.

General Petraeus said in Iraq sectarian violence is down. During a question and answer session, he was asked about the oil resources there and said Iraq has tremendous economic potential.

"There are tens of billions of dollars worth of oil contracts that have been let with global oil companies and others and the potential there is staggering," said Gen. Petraeus, U.S. Army Centcom Commander.

General Petraeus praised Governor Quinn for state programs that help service members and their families.
