The Northern Illinois Food Bank will soon be able to help many more needy people.

The food bank held a groundbreaking ceremony Monday for a new food distribution center in Geneva.

The new center will allow NIFB to nearly double the amount of food it dispenses annually, from 35 million pounds to more than 60 million pounds.

That will help address the growing ranks of unemployed and under-employed people who live within the 13 counties that NIFB serves.
