Memorial set for US Army Ranger from Illinois

July 20, 2010 (WILDWOOD, Ill.) Spc. Joseph Whiting Dimock of Wildwood died July 10 after a non-combat explosion during an ammunition inventory. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in August 2007 and served as a rifleman.

Dimock's memorial is planned Tuesday at Wildwood Presbyterian Church, along with a military tribute and burial at Highland Memorial Park in Gurnee. Dimock was from Wildwood and went to high school in Gurnee.

Dimock was assigned to Company E, 1st Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment, Hunter Army Airfield in Georgia. He previously served in Iraq and was serving his second Afghanistan deployment.

Dimock was awarded several medals during his military career.
