Plane makes emergency landing at O'Hare

An American Airlines flight had to return to O'Hare International Airport Thursday morning after being struck by lightning.

Flight 1487 was headed to Reno, Nevada.

A spokesperson for the airline says that shortly after takeoff, lightning hit near the plane's windshield.

A total of 160 passengers and five crew members were on board. They returned to O'Hare safely, and the passengers boarded another flight.

Mechanics checked the plane for damage.
