Flight 1487 was headed to Reno, Nevada.
A spokesperson for the airline says that shortly after takeoff, lightning hit near the plane's windshield.
A total of 160 passengers and five crew members were on board. They returned to O'Hare safely, and the passengers boarded another flight.
Mechanics checked the plane for damage.
