Prosecutors: Ryan counts should not be thrown out

Prosecutors told a judge that a recent Supreme Court ruling does not mean former Governor George Ryan should be released from jail before his prison sentence ends.

Ryan has served about 3 years of his 6 and a half year prison sentence. His lawyers say 8 of the 22 counts he was convicted of should be thrown out because the Supreme Court narrowed the focus of the so-called honest services law.

Prosecutors say he should remain in prison because there is little chance those counts will be dismissed.
