NewsViews: Chicago Police Supt. Jody Weis

November 14, 2010 (CHICAGO)

October was the 22nd consecutive month in which crime has been reduced.

Total crime in the city is down 3.7 percent this year compared to 2009. Violent crime is down 9.8 percent. And murders are down 2.3 percent.

This year through October there were 379 murders in Chicago. That's nine fewer than this time last year.

If this trend continues in November and December, the city's 2010 murder total could be the lowest for any year since 1965.
