A group looking at ways to cut extreme poverty in Illinois has unveiled its ideas. The Illinois Commission on the Elimination of Poverty is made up of state officials and the leaders of non-profit groups.

About 6 percent of the state's population lives in 'extreme poverty.'

The commission's goal is to cut that rate in half by 2015.

Suggestions include simplifying the process to apply for an Illinois LINK Card, which is how food stamps are issued.
