With higher gas prices comes an increase in the fuel surcharge paid by anyone who takes a cab in Chicago.

At one minute after midnight Tuesday, the surcharge will jump from 50 cents to $1.

The city allows cab drivers to increase the fee any time that gas prices rise above $3.20 for seven consecutive business days.

Passengers should look for a yellow sign inside the cab announcing the surcharge. The city says that without it, drivers cannot collect the fee.
