One candidate for mayor criticized proposals to deprive public school teachers of the right to strike while another endorsed a Chicago complex to cure diseases.

Miguel del Valle visited a kindergarten on the Southwest Side Tuesday and said banning strikes would create an adversarial relationship between teachers and management. The city clerk called for focusing on neighborhood schools instead of magnet and charter schools.

Another candidate, Gery Chico, joined medical leaders in proposing that the American Center for Cures be built in the city.

They displayed a model in which each of six buildings would be devoted to a cure for Alzheimer's, diabetes, cancer or other disease. They will seek federal funding.
