Polar plungers brave the cold for a cause

Hundreds of people flocked to Oak Street Beach Saturday, but at this time of year, they weren't there for sun-bathing.

These brave folks took part in the Lakeview Polar Bear Club's tenth annual Winter Lake Michigan Plunge.

They actually paid for the privilege of jumping into the frigid waters.

The club says every penny raised goes to help needy families.

Before the plunge, park employees shoveled ice from the lakeshore.

The club called Saturday's well-attended plunge a celebration of "our tenth year of insanity."
