City Council approves deal for first responders' pay

Chicago firefighters and paramedics will get $94 million in back-pay dating back to 2007 along with a 10 percent pay raise over the next five years.

The deal was given final approval by the City Council finance committee Monday.

But there are some major concerns.

The city will have to borrow money for that back pay. The citizens watchdog group, the Civic Federation, says it's like borrowing money to pay for last year's groceries.

In exchange, the firefighters union agreed to some staffing changes that will help reduce overtime costs.
