Lawmakers: Quinn to sign death penalty ban

March 8, 2011 8:31:54 PM PST
Illinois governor Pat Quinn will sign a bill Wednesday abolishing the death penalty in Illinois.

After a Pulaski Day event Monday, he said he would make his decision this week.

The two sponsors of the bill confirmed Tuesday night that they have been invited to a signing ceremony on Wednesday in Springfield where Quinn will sign the bill into law.

The governor had until March 18 to sign the bill abolishing the death penalty or it would have become law automatically without his signature.

ABC7 will be in Springfield on Wednesday for the expected announcement with live reports starting on our news at 11 a.m.
